So it should come as no surprise that Hino Motors was one of the first truck manufacturers in North America to qualify its engines under the very demanding EPA 2007 emission regulations. The regulations require a 50% reduction in harmful nitrogen oxides emissions and a 90% reduction in soot emissions. Hino's engineering team has met these very difficult targets without compromising engine durability or drivability.

Diesel Particulate Reduction System

Using ultra-low sulfur fuel, Hino's new Diesel Particulate Reduction (DPR) system collects and periodically re-burns the soot that derives from diesel fuel combustion. This leading edge technology reduces soot exhaust by an amazing 90%! The Hino DPR technology has been proven effective and reliable in Japan, where it has been used for more than 3 1/2 years on over 120,000 trucks and buses. This system has made Hino a leader in environmentally friendly diesel engines.
